Prediction – Germany v Australia

Australia have some international stars on their team, most notably Tim Cahill of Everton, and they’re a decent team. But Germany is packed with international talent and is one of the four teams (along with Italy, Argentina, and Brazil) that can always be counted on to perform like a champion on the World Cup stage. This is an easy choice for me: Germany.

Australia looked a little more promising against the USA but that game was far too open in the second half to compare it to a World Cup opening group match.

Having said that I feel the Germans will have far too much in attack to come away goalless and in my opinion will only need one goal which surely they can get with all their attacking options.

I agree, Wayne, that we can’t place too much importance on how the teams perform in their tune-up matches: squads are still being decided, stars are often being rested, and most importantly, nobody wants to get hurt before the finals. Germany’s loss of Michael Ballack will almost certainly encourage other German stars to step up their game and take a more prominent role. I think we’ll see a few German goals.

Thanks for your thoughts!
